Default problem squirrels

Hey all

I've got a Diana model 20 in .177, 495fps. Can this thing dispatch squirrels? I don't want to wound them only, I'm all about clean kills.

What kind of ammo should I use-I've got fieldpoints but if there's something more suited for this??? I know there are saboted steel rounds available.

Thanks

Matt

first off: make sure you can shoot squirrels where you live, some provinces you need a licence to take a squirrel due to the fur

Skenco Type 3 Golden Rod Long Range
available from dlairgun .com is my prefered squirrel/gopher round, a headshot/vital in a squirrel will end them quickly enough, the odd one will make it about 50' before dropping but most vital shots result in Shock
but you wont be able to "drop" squirrels with a gun under 700fps, they are tough lil buggers

ive taken a airsoft gun to squirrels with good results, most will dig a hole in the neighbors yard and scamper as fast as they can across my fence then go dig in the other neighbors yard, they are not dumb animals and have a long memory
another really easy way to scare off ba$tard squirrels is a "squirrel launcher" (see youtube)

For scaring them off i like to use a paintball gun, does not kill or injure them but it smarts and they do not come back. Other than that you must check local regualtions indeed before you get in serious shit.

I threw a rock at a nuisance squirrls head and hit it square between the eyes, it just looked at me and ke[t running along the fence, she was back 2 days later looking for penuts, I trapped her in a small cage trap and shipped her off to the forest 15 miles away.

with any rifle under 700fps if you cant do a headshot every time then DONT

500fps just seems to barely penetrate if at all a squirrel
if you dont have a powerfull airgun and your prime objective is to scare them off then try a decent airsoft rifle which wont injure the animal but will definitly keep em away

most squirrels live in groups, they rely on body mass for warmth in the winter, if you kill off a couple just when the snow starts to fall you will notice a larger decrease in squirrel activity

after watching him tear up about 10' of onions then posing at 20m this guy was just asking for it:
