Because our laws are gay.

You can have M1 carbines non-restricted. That's how fucked up our laws are. You can even have them prohibited!

Section 84 of the criminal code lays out the definitions for restricted, prohibited and non-restricted.

Because most carbines have a barrel length of 18 inches and not 18.5" they are restricted.

There is a 18.5" version that is non-restricted.
